This simple thing makes it so easy to work out where you should start your first stitch. Just line up the inch markers to the edges of the material, and then the pointed corner shows you where to place your first stitch.
Then you can merrily stitch your project with the peace of mind that when you finish up you will have the 2 inch, 2 1/2 inch or 3 inch excess around your finished design.
